The Rainbow Literary Project is a brand new LGBTQ+ literary and history newsletter for anyone age 11+. There will be a new issue every month, and they’ll all be free to download – perfect for schools, libraries, parents, and more!
Each issue will feature:
- At least two book recommendations suitable for readers 11+ (with recommended minimum reading ages)
- A piece on an LGBTQ+ historical event and a spotlight on an influential or inspirational LGBTQ+ person of history
- A fun activity, like a word puzzle
- Special features unique to each issue
Each issue is created with schools and libraries in mind so they’re designed to be as cost-effective as possible for printing, with newsletters being no more than around four pages (two sides of double-sided A4). They can also be read digitally as a PDF if you want to save on paper!
Who is behind the Rainbow Literary Project?
Hi! I’m Charlotte, a blogger, podcaster, and secondary school librarian from South Wales (but currently based in Wiltshire). My two biggest passions are books, particularly young adult and children’s fiction, and LGBTQ+ representation and education – so I’m always trying to find ways to combine those two things.
One day, I was searching for some newsletters to print out for my library as a way to encourage reluctant readers. I looked for ages for one that was dedicated particularly to diverse or LGBTQ+ books, but I couldn’t find one. So that’s when the idea for this newsletter came about – as I like to think, if you can’t find it, make it yourself!
How can I support the project?
As I mentioned above, it’s important to me that every issue will remain free to download so that it’s as accessible as possible. But if you’d like to support the newsletter, there are a few ways to do that:
- Follow us on Twitter/X and Instagram to stay up to date or say hello.
- Subscribe to the newsletter using the form on the homepage so you don’t miss an issue – they’ll be sent to your inbox every month!
- If you like what you see and want to support the newsletter, consider signing up to Patreon for monthly perks!
If you want to get in touch with any ideas, questions, or just to say hi, you can find me here 🙂
